Portishead Town Football Club is very proud to be an official partner of the #HerGameToo movement.

Formed in May 2021 by 12 football fans, HerGameToo is a campaign to raise awareness of sexist abuse in football and to also encourage fellow female fans to share their experiences.

Portishead Town unequivocally supports the campaign’s aim to create a world where women and girls of all ages can feel confident and safe sharing their opinion about football, both online and in real life without fear of sexist abuse.

Caz May, one of the co-founders of the campaign, said “It’s fantastic to have Portishead Town FC on board with our campaign. We want to spread the message of #HerGameToo across all levels of football and we are super grateful to Portishead Town for reaching out to us and offering their support. We look forward to working together to further raise awareness and combat sexism in football.”

Portishead Town Director of Football James Hughes said “Portishead Town Football Club are delighted to be working in partnership with the fantastic #HerGameToo movement. As a community focused club in our ever-expanding town, we pride ourselves on being at the core of Portishead’s sporting offering for all ages and genders. We are an inclusive club that welcomes one and all to enjoy what the club can offer. With over 1000 junior and senior members combined, we look to promote and enable people from all backgrounds to partake in and most importantly enjoy the beautiful game of football. Not only can people join in as players but as coaches, physios, bar staff, pitch and kit staff but also around the administrative side and supporting the backroom teams in helping the club run which is so important to grassroots football. PTFC are extremely proud to have Portishead Ladies 1st Team playing in League Football; the highest level ANY Portishead Team has ever reached. This in itself drives the awareness and educates all young people that football is no longer just a male sport, but champions women in and around our local community and beyond. With the support of the #HerGameToo movement, we will continue the campaign against any forms of abuse and discrimination.”

As part of the partnership, Portishead Town will raise the profile of the campaign with their logo appearing on our new website, social media pages, as well as in our match day programme and on signs around Bristol Road. Additionally we will canvas opinion across our senior and junior teams as to how we, as a club, can do better.
