After consecutive losses, the Development Colts were desperate to get back to winning ways and headed to Yatton on Saturday 28/09 hoping to pick up another 3 points.
The match started slow with few chances created by both teams, but it was Portishead Town who made the break through when goalkeeper Dan Finnimore smashed his kick over the Yatton & Cleeve defence for Lee Rackham to pounce onto a mistake by the home side's 'keeper to make it 1-0 at half time.
Portishead Town started the second half like they ended the first and took control of the game in the 55th minute, winger Josh Mills putting a cross into the box that struck a defenders hand, the referee pointing straight to the spot. Lee Rackham smashed the penalty down the middle past the diving goalkeeper to keep up his 100% record from the spot intact. It wasn’t long before Portishead got their third goal when man of the match Josh Honey got on the end of a cross and slotted away his first goal in men’s football. This seemed to be the wakeup call that Yatton & Cleeve needed and they scored two goals in quick succession to make it 3-2 with time still on the clock to grab a potential equaliser. However, Portishead defended well until the end to win the game 3-2 and take all 3 points, an excellent result away from home.
Next up for the Development Colts is Nailsea United B at home on Saturday, 5/10/19.
