Portishead failed to win back to back games for the first time this season when fellow strugglers Shepton Mallet disappeared back into Somerset with all 3 points in this scrappy encounter. Posset started brightly with Pettitt back in the side for the missing Gill who was on another stag weekend doing most of the probing from midfield, indeed Posset seemed robbed of the lead when on 25 minutes Jamie Clarke thundered a shot against the underside of the bar and quickly down over the line but this time the 'Russian' linesman did not signal a goal.
Half time came and some encouraging words from Manager Willis sent Posset back out to the field feeling a win was on the cards but it was not to be as Shepton's defence held firm and their winning goal came with their only shot on target when a long free kick was not dealt with by Posset's rearguard and the grateful Shepton centre forward poked home from close range.
Posset had their moments though and Mapstone seemed to have a stonewall penalty appeal turned down after 70 minutes and both strikers Clarke and Benn could have delivered a goal or 2 had their finishing been a little better.
Things turned a little sour towards the end with the hapless referee getting his knickers in a twist and making some bizarre bookings and adding a strange red card for keeper Ganfield after the final whistle. Frustration all round for Posset who need to start becoming a little more consistent and finishing teams off when on top in games.
