Posset Lose Final League Game
Corsham claim points at Bristol Rd
A disappointing end to the season for Portishead as they were defeated by the only goal against a resolute Corsham side who eventually went down to nine players after receiving 2 red cards. The only goal came after 5 minutes when central defender Lloyd Harding and ‘keeper George Shanks-Boon were not on the same wavelength and Corsham’s Josh Bright nipped in to roll the ball home. Robbie Cox and Dan Parslow worked hard to create openings for Posset but the visitor’s goalkeeper was untroubled apart from a Billy Manning shot which he tipped over. Corsham’s best efforts came from Dan Heavey who forced Shanks-Boon to save and saw another effort flash wide of the far post. The first half was mainly uneventful although the home team had the majority of possession.
Two minutes in to the second half, Corsham central defender Aaron Mason was red-carded when as last man he tangled with Posset’s Calum Townsend just outside the area and was adjudged to have brought him down. Al Harlington fired the resulting free kick wide and James Hughes tried hard to provide ammunition from the left but with no end result. Portishead continued to struggle to create chances against a well organised defence, although Townsend shaved the near post with a free kick. Ten minutes from time, Corsham’s Emilio Muprak received a second yellow card but apart from a Kieran Marsden effort which flew beyond the far post, the visitors rearguard was rarely troubled.
The lack of potency resulted in Portishead going down to their ninth home League defeat of the season to finish 14th in the table.
