Another Tense Game

Season drawing to a tense close
The season is drawing to a close and the team keep facing challenges from within the division.
The recent bad weather was long forgotten and the Bay pitch at the Club was too dry if anything. We had a strong team out today and wanted to even the score with Brislington having lost to them earlier in the year when our numbers were depleted. This time we had enough for three subs (Elijah, Dex and Josh) as we started with the usual formation with Toby in goal behind the back four of Liam, Max, Mike and Harry. Joe anchored the midfield behind Kyran and James and a regular forward line of Joel, Cody and Harvey.
We made hard work of the first half with our passing rarely being good enough. The ball overran on a number of occasions with the dry pitch, but we did not adapt quick enough. A solitary chance of note came our way with some neat link up play down the right with Harvey firing across the box and Liam stretching could only turn it over. At the other end of the pitch the dangerous Brislington forward was being well covered by Harry and Mike especially. Brislington did come closest to scoring from a header on a freekick, but Toby stretched out a leg and turned the ball onto the bar to ensure that the scores were level at half time.
Elijah and Josh were brought on to the forward line and Dex was also introduced at half time. Our second half started better and we created a few chances as we started to look like we may get the goal we needed. When it arrived, it was a little route one with a long kick from Toby causing problems as it bounced. Elijah controlled the ball with a few keepie-ups and laid it off to James who struck firmly from 25 yards out and the ball flew into the roof of the net to our delight. Soon after Cody and Liam were back on and we looked to stretch our lead. The game was quite even and either team could have scored again, but conditions were bobbly and tricky and we lost a few chances towards the end. Joe came back on for the final 10 minutes as we tightened up and eventually saw the game out and secured a vital 3 points with a 1-0 win.
Man of the Match - Mike Pouncey: Ensured that the Brislington danger man was covered off and led by example at the back.
