Town U14's 3 - 2 Swiss Valley
Town Beat Local Opposition
A team performance full of strength and resilience on a sticky pitch saw Portishead Town U14s register a 3-2 victory over a talented Swiss Valley side.
The home side were a goal up inside the first minute, with Louie O and Jack helping the dynamic Ollie to slot home his second goal of the season. But there was no time to relax, with Swiss probing and threatening at every opportunity.
However, it was Town who were taking their chances. Again good work down the left and the ball flashed across the goal. Morgan, who terrorised Swiss in the first game of the season, flew after the loose ball and was inexplicably bundled over by the keeper. The inevitable penalty was hammered in with minimum fuss by Jack and the boys in white were 2-0 up. Jake and Dan E came on to maintain the intensity in midfield and both made an immediate impact with strong challenges and excellent distribution.
The hard graft continued after the break. Luke was outstanding in goal, his perfect positioning allowing him to smother several one on one chances. In front of him, the back four of John, Josh, Sam and Louie F also delivered an excellent performance, determined to protect the precious advantage.
However, the away side were not to be denied. A promising Town attack broke down and Swiss countered, sending a speculative ball through the middle which beat the offside trap and it was 2-1. The momentum shifted and the danger men in the Swiss midfield found another gear. Slick passing around the box, a tidy finish off the post and it was game-on at 2-2
Another team could have crumbled, but Town had worked too hard to let this result slip. Powerful, unselfish work down the right from Jack pulled in three defenders. The cross was divine, finding Ewan in the box with the goal at his mercy. Time stood still as he calmly picked his spot to seal all three points.
Wonderful displays throughout, but for yet another excellent game at left back, resolute in defence and a constant threat going forward, Louie F was man of the match.
