Ashton Youth U14's 1 - 2 Portishead Town U14's
Missed chances nearly cost Town victory
A tight encounter in Bower Ashton saw Portishead Town register their first win of the season against a competitive Ashton Youth side.
In a cagey first half, both defences dominated and the midfield battle was fierce.
After the break, the game opened up and the visitors spread the ball wide, creating several good opportunities. But it was Ashton who broke the deadlock with a speculative looping shot from distance. The lead was short-lived however, with Jack Colling spinning to break free and smashing home the equaliser from inside the box.
There was time for further chances at each end, but Portishead were beginning to dominate and their pace up front was a constant threat. Finally, good work in midfield released Woody Cornish and he raced through to calmly slot a well-deserved first goal of the season.
Excellent performances across the team, with Josh Sheppard a commanding presence in midfield, but for a flawless defensive performance at right back, and for putting his team on the front foot with some excellent balls down the line, John Granger was named man of the match.
